Our Story

Once upon a time, insurance was a social good. While it is in concept, it isn’t much so in practice. We all know of at least one family shielded from hefty medical bills or a business protected from closure after facing a peril because they had insurance in place. Yet most of us don’t have any form of insurance, why?

For a big part, insurance is complex and this over time, has made it build a negative perception around itself. It begins with clients having difficulty in identifying the right insurers and solutions for themselves. They are then left to deal with ‘experts’ who missell to them. The result is, for every story insurance is a hero, there are a lot more of it as a villain.

Aspida Insurance runs on faith that insurance is a social good. Our desire is to simplify insurance as a product and process. Since 2015, we have been offering all classes of general insurance to individuals, SMEs and corporates

Our Approach

Our existence revolves around simplifying life through simplifying insurance for our clients. We do this through: –

  • Building Aspida around clients knowing what they are buying, who they are buying it from and how they are buying it.
  • Walking with clients along their insurance journey while wholly shielding their interests.
  • Taking over our clients’ claims leaving them stress free as we guide them towards full compensation, fast!

We promise to not only take up the burden of running around with insurance away from our clients’ shoulders but also ensure they are fully protected and getting value for every shilling of premium they pay for. We manage their insurance portfolios end to end including claims

Our Leadership

Haytham Bhalo

Managing Director
You’ll see Bhalo in a suit, a habit he picked from the many years he worked as a Corporate Banker. The rest of the time he’ll either be in a casual shirt or t-shirt holding a DSLR camera in hand. In 2005 at 21, he started his career in the insurance industry as a junior underwriter prior to moving to banking. Bhalo’s approach to Risk Management is a product of his years in insurance, banking, numerous trainings on risk and running businesses. He is a self-taught photographer with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Nairobi currently pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Insurance.

Alwi Shariff

Manager, Finance
With over 15 years in different sectors such as education, energy and trade acting in different capacities as a finance specialist, Shariff brings vast experience in controls, analysis, reporting and strategy. He is passionate about integrating technology with insurance and financial systems to prepare Aspida for the future. Shariff is a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from the University of Nairobi and an Associate of Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA).

Ahmed Abdulqadir

Manager, ICT
Ahmed is famously known as Engineer at the office not for being a BSc in Mechatronics Engineering Graduate from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) but for his demeanour. Engineer has been a technologist for close to ten years with extensive experience in building platforms for different industries. He heads everything tech in Aspida where he is constantly finding ways to make systems robust and pleasant for its users and more importantly, aim to simplify life for Aspida’s clients.
